The work in the Her Majesty's Prisons in England began in 1996 and has spread to many prisons around the country. We have trained over 50 prison chaplains to teach the Skills for Living (A Life Worth Loving and Building Healthy Relationships) material to the men and women with whom they minister. A number of the Skills for Living Volunteers have also taken the material into the prisons at the invitation of the Chaplaincy. We have even had the privilege to hold 2 6-day Skills Retreats in a prison with 19 men attending each retreat. The comments below are a very sample small of the impact and the changed lives of the men.

Here is what some of those in prison have said about the effect of Skills for Living on their life. (Note: the spelling and phrasing has not been edited but is just as the men answered the questions):

  • "It opened my eyes to seeing life from a different point of view I never thought of." -Kevin
  • "It's made me take a good look at myself and start to make changes." -Jason
  • "When I first came I didn't think I could do anything, now I do." -Michael B.
  • "It made me understand where I've been all my life." -Michael C.
  • "The guards should take this course!" -John
  • "It has changed my life totally around. I am now reading the Bible for the first time and teaching other men how to read." -Derek
